Social Studies Immersion
The NTSD Social Studies Immersion Program is the cornerstone of the curriculum. The program integrates the Social Studies content into the core curriculum areas as it provides students with experiences in philanthropy and service learning. Through practical application of their studies, NTSD students are prepared to interact and thrive in an increasingly diverse world.

Social Studies Content promotes literacy in the following areas:

World Cultures
Economics
History
Civics
Geography
Human Behavior

The Nataki Talibah Schoolhouse of Detroit concept, Builders of Society, helps students to identify the varying roles we play in society. Since each classroom is a society unto itself, the interchanging of these roles is a significant part of the school’s philosophical, social, and academic training.

A RECORDER -documents ideas and keeps records.
An INITIATOR -suggests, plans and executes ideas.
A LEADER- uses analytical and social skills to guide others toward goals.
A FOLLOWER -relinquishes individualism to adhere to school philosophy, classroom procedures, and societal rules.
A SUPPLIER- assesses the needs of the group and contributes resources and materials.
A CREATOR -uses imagination, creates/actualizes new things, and talents for self and for others.
An OBSERVER- sees, listens, and utilizes the scientific process.
An EVALUATOR- analyzes results and offers advice or activities to enhance social or academic environments.
A SUPPORTER- is a team player and encourages and empowers the group.
An EXPLORER- wants to know more and independently seeks the answers.
