Since 1978 The Taupe and Tan Parent Association has provided the financial support for special school projects and the philosophical support for the promotion of the school pedagogy. Nataki Talibah Schoolhouse of Detroit has a history of traditions that are preserved in order to maintain its educational philosophy. The school’s programming was created to attract parents who have a similar educational philosophy that is focused on the development of the whole child. For that reason, our parents are expected to support our parent programs.

Three parent workshops are held throughout the academic year. The first workshop is where parents learn about the school’s educational philosophy and how it connects to home. . The second is workshop shows how the school utilizes Kwanzaa, a school wide celebrated holiday, as an important tool in child rearing. The third workshop focuses are parental awareness in how develop their student’s cognitive learning skills and how to guide their student’s social growth.

Four Foreign Film /Documentary Nights are held per school year. Parents are expected to attend at least two, and The Darryl Dickson Philanthropic Program is a “giving” project whereby families support their student in the selection of a specific project that they would like to use as a vehicle for giving their time, resources or money.

All parents are expected to be a member of Taupe and Tan , the school’s parent organization. Taupe and Tan hosts an annual Fall Reception at an offsite location to welcome all school parents to the new school year. Taupe and Tan also plans an annual family getaway weekend for families who wish to participate.

Taupe and Tan fundraises to assist the school with educational tools and opportunities for the students. Where most activities are for parents and students , there are some activities designed only for parents . This gives parents the benefit of exploration and making new friends at NTSD as well. .
