Nataki Talibah Curriculum

The educational experience at Nataki Talibah Schoolhouse of Detroit is infused with the principles of respect, personal commitment and challenge. NTSD places the major responsibility for learning on the learner, while affording the physical, emotional and material resources to sustain the educational process.

Social Studies: Dual history, traditions and values of students are examined along with the culture, history, traditions and values of other societies. Students come to realize the increasing inter-dependence among the nations of the world.

Mathematics: Students focus on understanding the real numbering system, basic geometric ideas and the principles underlying the basic mathematical processes.

Language Arts: Students gain information by listening, reading and understanding what has been heard and read. Writing opportunities are provided in all subjects, and grammar skills are constantly reinforced through this practice

Science: Students learn to explore scientific principles and concepts through experiments and activities designed to teach the methods of scientific inquiry in an active and engaging manner.

Arts Program: Students learn that ideas are communicated not only through the written word, but also through dramatic, artistic and musical expression.

Spanish: Students are introduced to Spanish vocabulary, grammar and culture, expanded through various hands-on learning activities.

Physical Education: The Nataki Talibah Schoolhouse of Detroit Physical Education Program is designed to foster the physical, cognitive, affective, and social development of students as they matriculate through elementary and middle school. Emphasis is placed on the interpersonal interaction of games and sports.

Technology: Grades 2 through 4 are instructed in the use of computer software applications and grades 5 through 8 use the software programs to assist with projects, write research papers, design presentations, and graph data. Students in grade 8 create electronic portfolios to summarize what they have learned while attending Nataki Talibah Schoolhouse. Students in grades K-5 are engaged in a project-oriented approach to technology. Projects include: class web pages to display student work, online research, book publishing, and production of flyers.
